What would you rather deal with? Allroad with suspension that fails ever 10k miles or B5 S4 with failing turbos every 10k miles?

More subs for me and Rolland then

I’ve driven on both of those roads, but I’ve never said anything about it on Oppo?
How did you know, or were you just guessing?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 20:50 |

Actually, that’s a quote from Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. It’s a great book. I recommend it.

Here
is where you should start! Sorry about that!
![]() 06/01/2016 at 20:54 |

I started reading Vonnegut in high school because my dad had all of his books. That was the first one I took off the shelf. I didn’t understand a lot of it, but it still blew my mind. It’s been 30 years since I read Breakfast . I need to read it again.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 20:55 |

Sounds pretty interesting, I have to give that a shot.

I recognized the location of one of the pictures you posted a few weeks back. I grew up in that area. Picture freaked me out when I saw it pop up on Oppo.

I am disappoint
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:04 |
|
Ahhhh, gotcha. Small world!
That picture was taken from Coeburn Mountain Road. Really great road, smooth also.
Never have been a huge fan of Tacoma Mtn road however. Too many hairpins and going up it is a bit of an annoyance in my car. Second gear the entire time all the way up to 5k.....
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:04 |
|
Here’s a bigger taste. When Vonnegut writes about war, it’s important to know that he was a POW in WWII, and witnessed the horrible Allied bombing of Dresden. If anybody is qualified to write about war, it's him
This blog post has more than a few misspellings, but you’ll get the idea.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:14 |

I prefer Coeburn mtn as well. Either road used to be scary if you encountered a coal truck, but that’s really not an issue anymore.
I live in the tri-cities area now and 421 from Bristol to Mtn City through Shady Valley is a fun road, but it’s beat to hell right now.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:16 |
|
Are you not entertained?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:20 |
|
For sure, I almost got run off the road by some old teal truck that crossed the double yellow. Never have seen a cop on it though and there usually isn’t much traffic going down.
Also, what do you think of 58 ALT? I’m not a huge fan of the guard rail on the inside lane during curves. Feel like it’s too close to the lane itself.
Don’t recall going on 421, may have to give it a go at some point.

![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:29 |

Apologies for mentioning this so soon, but I have a quick question about the authorship thing…
If Oppositelock is following you, do you get authorship?
Or do you need the admin to reply to your comment in order to get it?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:29 |
|
Am I late to the party?

![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:32 |
|
Not a problem at all!
The mod will see your comment, grant you authorship and probably notify you, from which you’ll get the “Oppositelock has started following you” notification.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:32 |
|
Allroad
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:33 |
|
I think Alt 58 is a nice drive for a 4-lane. There’s some nice scenery and enough curves to make it somewhat entertaining. It certainly slays I-81 which is my least favorite road to ever be on.
I’ve honestly never noticed the inside guard rail being an issue on the road, but I also don’t go much above 62 mph since VA state troopers aren’t the most forgiving police force. I’ll try to pay more attention to them on my next trip through there.
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:33 |
|
The mod hasn’t replied, but I did get the “Oppositelock has started following you” notification.
So… do I have the authorship permissions now?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:35 |

Allroad or B5 S4 Avant?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:37 |

Yup, haven’t seen too many State Troopers out there recently though.
Only problem with Virginia is the stupid laws :P

B8 Allroad or C5 Allroad?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:38 |
|
yes?
![]() 06/01/2016 at 21:39 |
|
Well, I guess it’s back to original plan.
I'll wait a week or so and then ask mods again.
Thanks for your help btw, really appreciate it.
